Working from home and on your own schedule can be wonderful. No painful micro-managing, no annoying co-workers, and the cats only lay on my keyboard for an hour or two a day…tops.
But sometimes you get into a slump, where no matter how hard you try the days just disappear with nary a completed paragraph to show for it.
This time my local DSL provider is also causing me mental anguish. We have had more down than up time this week. But I can’t blame them, not really. I can write without an e-thesaurus and wikipedia…even if I might not want to.
Mostly I am just at a point in my revision where I have been debating removing two chapters, yet every time I actually go to do it I back off. They have a ton of information, explain the plot progression, so I rewrite them…again. Then the next day I am back with my finger hovering over the delete key.
Writer’s block is the commonly used phrase, though in this case it is re-writer’s block…
No less frustrating. But today I am done…the chapters stay for now, and I am moving on.
Give it a few weeks, and I will finish up this revision then be right back to glaring at those two chapters again…
So today’s moral…don’t let yourself get stuck. If something is driving you nuts, move on, come back later if necessary. But if you can’t decide there is probably a reason. Give yourself some time to figure it out!
